Federal

 

·    $5 Million / 5 year grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Postsecondary Education Programs for Individuals who are Deaf; funds the PEPNet West Regional Center to provide technical assistance to institutions throughout the western United States, U.S. territories, and Pacific Islands. (2007)

 

·    $1M U.S. Dept. of Education, TRIO / Upward Bound project to help high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds transition to/be successful in college (2007)

 

·    $250,000 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health, Youth Empowerment Program grant to the Institute for Public Health at San Diego State University, in partnership with San Diego Youth & Community Services (SDYCS), the YMCA Youth and Family Services, and Pacific Beach & Roosevelt Middle Schools. (2006)

 

·    $5,000 Museum Assessment Program award from the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS), the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. (2006)

 

 

State

 

·    $3.86 Million from the California State Department of Conservation to fund the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art FDA approved equipment and technology for private sector plastic recycling company. (2006)

 

·    $1.5 Million grant from the State of California Proposition 40 (Urban Initiative) funds for City of L.A. Dept of Recreation & Parks; funded installation of synthetic soccer. (2005)

 

·    $3.3 Million grant from the State of California Proposition 40 (Urban Initiative) funds for City of L.A. Department of Recreation & Parks; funded site improvements and acquisition and installation of synthetic soccer field at Gilbert Lindsay Recreation Center (2004)

 

·    $1.2 Million grant from State Department of Conservation, Department of Recycling for plastics recycling company to purchase state-of-the-art color-sorting equipment. (2005)

 

·    $114,000 grant from the California Department of Transportation to redesign classroom based continuing education curriculum for distance learning delivery; awarded to California State University, Fullerton. (1993)

·    $550,000 competitive award from City of L.A. Proposition K funds to build public restrooms at the Sepulveda Basin Garden Center; part of the recreational and cultural facilities program of the Department of Recreation and Parks in the City of Los Angeles. (2005)

 

·    $62,500 to fund workforce training & outreach to families and residents in HUD low income housing developments. Also managed the one-year project, in collaboration with Northwest Pasadena Development Corporation and California State University, Los Angeles. (2001)

 

·    $1.5 M competitive youth services grants for the UCLA Community Based Learning Program. Award funded with Workforce Investment Act (WIA) dollars by the City of Los Angeles, Community Development Department. (2002)

 

·    $1.3 M competitive youth services grants for the UCLA Community Based Learning Program. Award funded with Dept. of Labor Workforce Investment Act (WIA) dollars by the City of LA, Community Development Department. (2002)

 

·    $62,500 from the Commission on the Extended University to fund training for textile workers in the apparel industry; grant awarded to CSULA in collaboration with the California Fashion Association, (2002)

 

·    $20,000 for Community Service Learning infrastructure development from the Chancellor’s Office of the Cal State University system for CSU Channel Islands. (1999)

 

·    $40,000 grants for Service Learning course development and faculty resource development, awarded to CSU Channel Islands. (2000)

 

·    $50,000 in California Lottery Funds to fund assistive technology for communication access services to deaf students supported by the National Center on Deafness. (2005)

·    $20,000 grant awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf to conduct research (develop data bases and national surveys) to investigate supply and demand of Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters in U.S. (2006)

 

·    $14,700 grant from the Grace Petri Fund for the purchase of Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs), awarded to the National Center on Deafness at Cal State Northridge. (2006)

 

·    $38,500 grant from the Grace Petri Fund for the purchase of Captioning Technology, awarded to the National Center on Deafness. (2006)

 

·    $61,712 grant from the Grace Petri Fund for the purchase of computers to support an interactive collaborative learning lab at the National Center on Deafness. (2006)

 

·    $23,500 from National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) for the project “Infusing a Culture of Innovation into the Engineering Curriculum”. Co-wrote with mechanical engineering faculty member. (2007)

During the past ten years, I have raised more than $21 million in grant funds, and an additional $2 million dollars in industry contracts for training and organizational development services.  My professional activities include writing program narratives, conducting research, community outreach, collecting letters of support, developing budgets and budget narratives, and preparation of final documents for submission.
